Germany: Apples mostly in retail adverts
1,156 times: This is the number of times apples were represented in printed and online adverts of 40 German retailers and regional supermarkets, as announced by the German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI).
Apples were undoubtedly advertising king with this. Apart from apples most advertising went to grapes, melons and oranges. As for the structure of advertising offers there are differences between the various chains, but also the annual development of the structure, when seasonal influences become noticeable. Regional supermarkets become more important. But their prices are not always higher than with the larger chains.
The separate chains and regional supermarkets advertise in a totally different way for fresh fruit. Whilst discounters normally only draw attention to one or two products, fruit and vegetables may often fill various pages of an advertising brochure.
The origin of fruit in advertising is very varied. However, there are three countries of origin, which are good for 51% of the offers. Spain is No1 with 26% followed by Italy with 16% and Germany 9%.
