UK: All entries in for Pink Lady photographer of the year comp

Entries have now closed for the first ever Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year award, with a total of 3,160 images entered into the nine categories from 61 countries, with each competing for the top position.

Launched just 23 weeks ago in August 2011, the competition has sparked global interest thanks to a variety of promotional channels including Twitter, magazine and newspaper articles and online coverage spanning everything from food and lifestyle websites to specific photographic forums. In November the Telegraph Online showcased a selection of entered images.

Competition hopefuls, amongst them 191 junior photographers under the age of 18, entered their images online at www.pinkladyfoodphotographeroftheyear.com, and are now eagerly awaiting the announcement of those who have been shortlisted in early March.

The final decision on the winners is down to a select and highly respected panel of judges including Radio 4’s Sheila Dillon, chef and restaurateur Tom Aikens and Henry Dimbleby, founder of Leon restaurants. Amongst the judges is also Andy Macdonald, Managing Director of Coregeo, the master licensor of Pink Lady apples in the UK.

Andy comments, “The number of entries for the competition is a clear testament that international food photography has been unrecognised for far too long. There has been a need to showcase the talent and skill of food photographers and we are delighted to be involved. The Pink Lady brand is global and whilst we represent it specifically in the UK, to have had exposure in so many countries clearly demonstrates its popularity.”

The next stage of the process is for the judges to decide on category winners, with the overall winner being announced on 24th April at The Mall Galleries in central London followed by a week-long exhibition.

Andy concludes, “This may be the first year of the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year, but we are confident that the brand exposure generated by these international awards will bring us huge benefits and we are looking forward to a long lasting and successful relationship with the award.”
