Switzerland: The retail trade focus on a difficult year
The Swiss retail trade must expect a decrease for the coming year . The economic research institute BakBasel has come to the conclusion that turnovers will decrease by 0.4%.
Recession, increase in unemployment and consumers, who will do their shopping at the other side of the border; the economic environment remains difficult in the coming year, as per BakBasel. The economic research institute expects a real increase in turnover of about 0.7%. Nominally the turnover will be 0.4% smaller. BakBasel expect that in the coming months decreases in the price of import products will be noticeable caused by the rates of exchange.
In 2011 turnover decreased by 1.7%, the largest decrease since 15 years. On average prices decreased by more than 2% in 2011.
