Poland nett vegetable exporter
Mushroom export Poland considerably increased
Poland is an important producer and exporter of fruit and vegetables, but during the period from 2005 to 2010 the production and the export did not structurally increase. There is more transit trade via Poland, especially with fruit. Also the export of mushrooms increased considerably. The Czech Republic is clearly less important as a producer, but interesting as an export market. The export of Dutch fresh vegetables and fruit to both Poland and the Czech Republic have increased during the period 2005-2010.
Production Poland
During the period 2008-2011 the production of vegetables in Poland fluctuated between 4.25 and 4.8 billion kgs. The biggest cultivations are white cabbage, carrot, onion, beetroot, tomatoes and cauliflower. The production of mushrooms in Poland increased from 130 million kgs to 250 million kgs. in 2010. The most important fruit cultivation in Poland is apple followed by soft fruit and strawberries. In the last four years the Polish apple harvest has fluctuated between 1.9 and 2.6 billion kgs. Poland is an important producer of soft fruit, not only for the fresh market but also for the processing industry.
Poland nett vegetable exporter
Poland exports more vegetables than it imports, but the export surplus is decreasing. The export decreased from 603 million kgs in 2005 to 583 million kgs.in 2010. Imports increased in the same period from 199 million kgs to 483 million kgs. Consequently the surplus decreased from more than 400 to less than 150 million kgs. The Polish vegetable export consists mainly of mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, various kinds of cabbage and carrots. The most important vegetables imported are mainly the same products: tomato, onion, carrot, peppers, cucumber and cabbage. The most important destinations for Polish vegetable exports are Russia, Ukraine, Germany, United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Important export markets for Polish mushrooms are also France and Sweden.
Czech Republic nett importer
The Czech Republic is a nett importer of both fruit and vegetables. The export of vegetables increased from 45 million kgs. in 2005 to 77 million kgs. in 2010, but imports have also increased from 365 to 460 million kgs. Both with imports as with exports the tomato is the most important vegetable. Other important import vegetables are cucumber, onion, peppers, carrot and cabbage. The vegetable imports mainly come from the Netherlands, Germany, Spain and Poland.
