Coolboxx investigates alternatives for expensive transport from Spain

Importers are stressed, now that the cargo costs from Spain have almost doubled. "Due to the economic crisis in Spain not much is being imported from the west, so almost no products are coming in return. It's everything or nothing per truck. Because there are so few returns, traders pay for there and back, double", says Sjaak Melissant, general manager of Coolboxx. "But as soon as there's a return and the prices go down, people quickly switch back to trucks, as this is the most ideal transport so far."

Various importers have complained about the transport costs per truck. Some traders have tried trading by boat, but it wasn't easy. "Some of our pallets had collapsed. The transport costs were less, but it didn't make us happy", complains an importer.

Sjaak emphasizes that the incident with the collapsed pallets didn't affect Coolboxx. "We use 45ft reefers with comparable measurements to the regular trailer. All our containers are foreseen with 4 loading rods, with which the back pallets can be attached. This can be seen on the photo's."

"It's important that we find a solution for this together", says Sjaak. "We're now busy with an investigation as to how we can control the logistics from Spain, but this alternative has to be good. It could be the railway. For tips and collaboration companies can always contact us."
