Peter Maes, Zeghers:
"EU: "Recovery citrus market short lived"
After the recovery of the citrus market last week quiet has returned. "There was some activity on the market, but all is quiet again" Peter Maes of Zeghers, Belgium says. "Whether it is mandarins, oranges or lemons, it is quiet on all fronts. Also prices are at a low level."
"As far as mandarins are concerned we are now talking about a change-over period. The clementines are almost over and now we will have the Clemenvilla's and
Nadorcotts. One has to look around a bit. Part of the customers still choose the cheaper and well-known and the other the firm, taste full Nadorcotts, which are slightly more expensive. For these one pays 1.50 to 1.60 Euro/kg, whilst the other varieties are sold at about one Euro/kg."
