Netherlands: FrEsteem about to grow Dutch peppers in winter
This winter three growers of growers association FresQ have started an experiment growing peppers in winter in the Netherlands. The three companies are: Bergpeppers, Kwekerij Helderman and Zwingrow. In an experimental hothouse of 2000m2 red, yellow and orange peppers are grown. "We want to establish whether we can supply specific customers with high quality and reliable Dutch peppers also in winter. In addition we could satisfy the theme local for local," as per Piet van der Berg.
Ted Zwinkels (Zwingrow) Johan Helderman (Kwekerij Helderman) and
Piet van den Berg (Bergpeppers)
The growers see a Dutch cultivation in winter as an addition to the supply from abroad. Ted Zwinkels: "This year we started a cooperation agreement with Israel via FreshQ FrEsteem. We are also doing this in order to supply customers with peppers all year round. We are namely of the opinion that we should be available for the customer all through the year. The client must be able to count on you both in summer and winter. The production in the Netherlands is especially for those clients, who want Dutch peppers all year round."
Th first peppers were picked last week. We plan for the test to run till the end of February. Then we will see whether the test will have a follow-up next winter.
