large production in Spain because of warm weather

"Good prices strawberries; possible increase next week"

The Spanish strawberry season has just started and the market is positive. The strawberries are about two weeks earlier than last year because of the warm weather in Spain. As a result there is also abundant production. According to various traders at the European Centre in Brussels sales of the strawberries are doing well. The prices vary from 1 Euro to 1,25 Euro per 250 grams.

"The demand is good and I expect it to remain that way," an importer ascertains. "The consumer is used to seeing the strawberries in the supermarket. Prices are expected to increase next week. Colder weather has been forecast in Spain and as a result production will be less and prices will increase."
