UK: Super soup sales boost west Norfolk vegetable specialist

Soaring soup sales in Setchey have gone down a treat for a leading West Norfolk-based vegetable grower and supplier. Family firm Alfred G Pearce, which was founded more than half a century ago, has been supplying ever-greater volumes of vegetables for making soup. Director Simon Pearce said: “Soup sales are soaring and they’re been very good for over 12 months now. We also supply the ingredients for making fresh soups.” After last year’s long, cold winter, soups regained popularity and have since maintained sales. As growers and packers of carrots and onions, which were key ingredients for many soups, it has been a growth area, said Mr Pearce. And sales of fresh soups including carrot and coriander, traditional winter vegetables and minestrone have grown strongly, he added. “They’re extremely good value for money. As quality, fresh soup demands first class ingredients, this has also helped us.” The firm, which is based at the Garage Lane industrial estate, Setchey, near King’s Lynn, was founded in 1959 by his late father and started supplying the canning industry.
