Honduras to export onions to Central and South America

Last year there was a large onion production in the country, but since it did not have a market it had to be destroyed, this year exports for onions will start first to El Salvador and Colombia.

This was announced by producer George Gallo, who also assured that the importation of onions from Europe will no longer be allowed.

He pointed out that the onion production was about to begin and the expectation is to begin product exports with the support of the government.

Galo said that since December 24 of last year, onion imports stopped from countries like Holland, Spain and the United States and now production will be supported for exports.

He explained that last year there was a large overproduction of this vegetable, but it could not be exported due to lack of support from the government to meet the phytosanitary requirements that are required.

The producer said it is expected for exports to expand to El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Colombia, the United States, Spain and Puerto Rico, but the phytosanitary requirements still have not been met.
