Italy: Marcon-based Ortoromi warehouse back at work after fire
In the last few days, employers rolled up their sleeves and harvested chicory and lettuce that, fortunately, continue to grow.
It is not without difficulties: most of agricultural vehicles were destroyed in the fire as well as cold cells and some packaging lines. But thanks to other Ortoromi storage and processing plants, lettuces can be washed, packed and delivered to clients.
The Pelosin family, owners of Azienda Agricola Corradi, estimate that the damages exceed EUR 3 million. Fire started for reasons yet to be ascertained.
Fabio Pelosin
"Material losses are huge: years of sacrifices and investment went up in smoke. Now we must face up to all financial aspects and we hope that the banks will try to meet us halfway. As for work we go on as we have always done. The Azienda Agricola Corradi must face up to great challenges in terms of money and organization" Elio Pelosin, Ortoromi Vice President and owner of Azienda Agricola Corradi, together his son Fabio said, "We thank all the people, friends and clients who are behind us in this situation."
Other Ortoromi plants are contributing temporarily with agricultural vehicles for harvest. Lettuces for processing are stored at the moment in the cold cells in Villanova and Loreggia.
