Angola: First national banana fair set for January

Bengo Province will hosts in January 2012 the first National Exhibition Fair of Banana, an initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture, in partnership with the local government. The announcement was made on Friday, by the provincial governor, João Bernardo de Miranda, in the ceremony of seasons greetings, where he said that it is an event that opens an opportunity to encourage farmers, especially those from the province of Bengo. João Miranda praised the fact that the province is the leading producer of banana in the country.

“According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fishing, now the province of Bengo is a major producer of bananas on a national scale”, the governor stressed. He said that during the fair, exhibitors will have the opportunity to absorb scientific knowledge about planting, treatment and processing of banana, as well as attend a technical seminar for the sector.
