Spanish farmers protest latest CAP proposals
They surrounded themselves with produce from all over the country and lifted a huge banner which read "Agriculture is Food." 30 COAG representatives announced mobilisation against the current CAP proposals.
The action in Madrid marked the start of a series of protests this Autumn.
Miguel Blanco, the General Secretary of COAG, announced that this event is in solidarity with the Good Food March, that tomorrow will celebrate its finale in Brussels, outside the European Parliament.
Miguel Blanco said, "If you close the door to our agriculture, you open the doors wide to the food crisis." He added, "It is about defending our agriculture as a strategic sector, therefore, it is a matter that concerns the Spanish government. Defending our agriculture we defend the food security for the whole of society."
COAG say that recent proposals will lead to food dependency and the rise of prices for basic food items.
