Travis Murphy - All Aussie Farmers:

“As we move into summer, we’ll see demand pick up as the weather heats up"

The Australian avocado supply is coming predominantly from Western Australia at the moment, with some fruit still coming from South Australia. The Australian market was over-supplied earlier in the year, but according to Travis Murphy, Managing Director at All Aussie Farmers, the situation is a bit better now.

"Numbers are still up, but demand is slightly higher as we're into spring and we have better weather, which seems to help with consumption. Western Australia has a big crop this year and is the main supplier to the market just now. The main variety is Hass, with some Reed towards Christmas. In general, quality is very good."

All Aussie Farmers don't do any direct export, but work with some of their customer for export.

"Our biggest markets are the Victorian fruit shops and independent supermarkets that want high-quality avocados. We also have food service customers that supply the restaurant sector.

"As we move into summer, we'll see demand pick up as the weather heats up, and with good supply management, I expect that even with a larger crop, we'll be able to manage the volumes well."
