AGF Monitor compares weekly price trends for various fruits and vegetables found online. Supermarktscanner.nl monitors the prices. The price survey takes place at the end of each week.
Cucumber
© Supermarktscanner.nlNone of the surveyed supermarkets followed Albert Heijn and Jumbo's price increase. PLUS even lowered its price to 79 cents and will maintain that in week 45. After two weeks at the $0.95 level, the cucumber price at the 'blue' and 'yellow' retailers drops back to $0.85 each. Dirk has a special offer at 69 cents each. On average, this brings the price down to 82 cents.
Broccoli
© Supermarktscanner.nlPrice differences for broccoli remain, though there is plenty of availability again. The significant price increases in week 44 of +24 cents at Albert Heijn and +20 cents at DekaMarkt persist. In week 45, Jumbo follows the trend and raises its price to 1.29 euros for 500 grams of broccoli, equal to AH's price. PLUS, which did not offer broccoli online in week 44, continues to stand out with an offer of just 79 cents. Both Dirk and Hoogvliet keep their prices stable at 99 cents. This keeps the average price at 1.10 euros.
Blueberries
© Supermarktscanner.nl There are plenty of blueberry promotions. Albert Heijn, Dirk, Hoogvliet, and DekaMarkt are all featuring them, with Albert Heijn offering the sharpest price: 3.37 euros for 300 grams. The average blueberry price, therefore, drops significantly, to 3.76 euros, 32 cents lower than in week 44.
Mango 
© Supermarktscanner.nl PLUS reintroduces an offer in week 45, dropping the price from 1.99 euros to 1.29 euros. Jumbo goes a step further and halves the price to 99 cents. This reverses the upward trend in the average mango price, which falls by 24 cents to 1.69 euros.
Strawberries
© Supermarktscanner.nlStrawberries are back online at Vomar, while Dirk has not listed them for the third consecutive week. There is also a 20-cent price increase at Hoogvliet and a 50-cent promotion at Jumbo. On average, the price for a 400-gram punnet of strawberries rises further, reaching 4.06 euros in week 45, 13 cents higher than in week 44.
Vine tomatoes 
© Supermarktscanner.nl Week 45 shows exactly the same picture as week 44. The average weekly price remains 92 cents for 500 grams of loose vine tomatoes. At Hoogvliet, vine tomatoes are still missing online, and the price drop at PLUS continues.
Price and quality
Price data come from Supermarktscanner.nl and are based on online prices listed in the webshops of Albert Heijn, Jumbo, Plus, DekaMarkt, Dirk, and Hoogvliet. The price is an average, including promotions. This price comparison does not account for origin or quality, as most supermarkets do not specify these details on their websites. Hoogvliet and Jumbo do list the country of origin. It is therefore possible that the comparison above includes unripe avocados versus ripe ones, or Spanish cucumbers versus Dutch ones.
Notes on the data
Vomar uses fixed online prices. Avocado has been missing from its online range since 2022, and Galia since week 24. Hoogvliet and Vomar sell hand oranges in 1.5 kg bags, and the price is converted to 2 kg for comparison. Jumbo only sells packaged vine tomatoes per 5 pieces instead of per 500 grams or kilo. For comparison purposes, we count 100 grams per tomato.
