In 2024, the value of agricultural output in the European Union reached €531.9 billion at basic prices, representing a 0.9% decline compared with 2023 (€536.7 billion). This was the second consecutive year of a slight decrease following the peak recorded in 2022. The change in nominal value reflected a 1.0% rise in production volume alongside a 1.8% fall in the nominal price of agricultural goods and services.

According to Eurostat's latest data on the economic accounts for agriculture (EAA), 15 EU member states recorded higher output values in 2024 than in 2023. The largest increases were observed in Ireland (+8.9%), Croatia (+8.8%), and Sweden (+5.0%). In contrast, France (-9.0%), Romania (-8.5%), and Bulgaria (-8.0%) registered the sharpest declines.

The remaining 8.5% (€45.4 billion) came from agricultural services and secondary activities, a 0.6% decrease from the previous year.

Intermediate consumption, which includes input costs not related to investment, was valued at €303.3 billion in 2024, down 3.7% from 2023. The combined effects of these changes resulted in a 3.1% increase in the gross value added generated by agriculture, which reached €228.6 billion for the year.
