Ukraine plans US$4.8 million grant for vegetable storage facilities

The Verkhovna Rada's agricultural committee expects an increase in vegetable storage construction projects as the government allocates funding for their development. Although many farmers have expanded vegetable cultivation this year, storage capacity across Ukraine remains insufficient to meet demand.

The committee indicated that a new grant program may be launched next year to support both farmers and processors in constructing vegetable storage facilities. Improved storage infrastructure is expected to help stabilize prices for domestically grown vegetables during the spring.

Ukraine has traditionally relied on imports to meet market demand in early spring. According to the committee, imported products are often more expensive and of lower quality than domestic vegetables.

The Ministry of Economy is preparing to introduce a grant program in 2026 specifically for the construction of vegetable storage facilities. The program will have an annual budget of approximately ₴200 million (US$4.8 million).

Ukraine currently faces a shortage of more than 1.1 million tons of vegetable storage capacity. Due to inadequate storage conditions, an estimated 35% of the vegetable harvest does not reach consumers.
