AGF Monitor compares weekly price trends of various fruits and vegetables as found online. The prices are monitored by Supermarktscanner.nl. The price survey takes place at the end of each week.
Cucumber

A 10-cent price increase for cucumbers at Albert Heijn, Jumbo, and DekaMarkt. Dirk and Hoogvliet have not yet followed, while Vomar has partially adjusted prices. After cucumbers were missing from the shelves in week 42, they have now returned online with a 5-cent increase to €0.84. The average price is also up by 10 cents, to €0.87.
Broccoli

In week 43, PLUS offers a 26-cent discount on broccoli, priced at €0.79 (down from €1.05). This promotion brings the average price down by 4 cents to below €1.00 (€0.98).
Blueberries

There is plenty of promotional activity for blueberries. In week 43, PLUS offers the largest price drop (€1.50), but Dirk has the lowest overall price (€2.49). DekaMarkt also features a €0.90 discount. As a result, the average blueberry price decreases significantly by €0.51.
Mango

Albert Heijn continues its mango promotion, reducing the price by an additional €0.01 to €1.49 in week 43. At Hoogvliet and Jumbo, promotions have ended, pushing the average weekly price up by €0.19 to €1.83 each.
Strawberries

The autumn season appears to be over, with only Jumbo offering a promotion on strawberries (€3.99 down to €3.49). Other retailers have returned to their previous prices. At Dirk, strawberries are missing from the online assortment. The average weekly price now stands at €3.85, an increase of €0.65 compared to week 42.
Vine tomatoes

There are no notable changes for vine tomatoes in week 43.
Price and quality
Price data come from Supermarktscanner.nl and are based on online prices listed in the webshops of Albert Heijn, Jumbo, PLUS, DekaMarkt, Dirk, and Hoogvliet. The prices represent averages, including promotional discounts. The comparison does not take origin or quality into account, as most supermarkets do not specify these details online. Only Hoogvliet and Jumbo indicate the country of origin. As such, the comparison may include unripe versus ripe avocados or Spanish versus Dutch cucumbers.
Notes on the data
Vomar uses fixed online prices. Avocados have been missing from the online range since 2022, and Galia melons have been absent since week 24. At Hoogvliet and Vomar, hand oranges are sold in 1.5 kg packs, with prices converted to 2 kg for comparison. Jumbo only sells packaged vine tomatoes in sets of five rather than by 500 g or per kilo. For consistency, calculations assume 100 g per tomato.
