It's been a very smooth and stable season for Polish cauliflowers, says Kornelia Lewikowska, purchasing manager for Polish vegetable exporter Green Best: "This year, the Polish production of cauliflower was rather similar to the production of last year. We had no reason to complain about either a lack of supply or a lack of demand for cauliflowers. The summer in Poland wasn't too hot, so we didn't have any major drought problems or other issues with the weather this year."

Although some of the cauliflowers are destined for the domestic market, the lion's share is exported to other countries, Lewikowska explains. "It's hard to specify the exact numbers when it comes to the local market and export, but what I can say is that demand for cauliflowers in Poland is lower than it is in terms of exports. Most of our cauliflowers have been exported to the Czech Republic and the Slovak markets."
The prices for this year's cauliflowers were lower despite the strong demand, as the Polish produce had to compete with the prices of Dutch producers: "Overall demand for cauliflower was strong this year, but low prices in the Netherlands forced Polish producers to adjust their prices to those in the West. This resulted in a lower average cauliflower price compared to last year. I believe that the available cauliflower quantities and the good weather will allow us to load trucks for another two weeks, so we hope to export the last quantities and finish the season positively," Lewikowska concludes.
