"Balanced volumes and quality for Turkish Kirby cucumbers"

Despite some weather difficulties during the spring, the production of Turkish Kirby cucumbers has remained balanced this season, both in terms of volumes as well as quality, says Yaren Karaduman, agricultural engineer for Turkish fresh produce exporter Biberciler İç Dış Gıda San. ve Tic. Ltd. Şti.: "This season's production of Kirby cucumbers has been relatively balanced compared to the previous one. Although spring weather conditions occasionally affected the yield, we managed to maintain our quality standards. Thanks to early precautions in irrigation and plant health, production has remained stable throughout the season."

According to Karaduman, the Eastern European markets have seen solid growth for the export of these cucumbers. "Kirby cucumbers have shown consistent demand over the past few years, especially in Eastern European markets. The growing consumer interest in fresh and natural products has strengthened this segment even more. In addition, both the retail and pickling industries have continued to support demand throughout the season.

With the growing demand for Kirby cucumbers in Eastern European markets, it's no surprise that Biberciler's mostly exports the product to this region: "Our main export destinations are Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, and Russia. We also have regular customers across the Balkan region," Karaduman states. "We adapt our operations according to each market's specific requirements in terms of packaging, sizing, and delivery schedules."

Climate change and increasing costs remain aspects of exporting fresh produce that exporters have to tackle, and this is no different for the export of Kirby cucumbers. "One of the main challenges is the impact of climate change on production planning. Additionally, increasing logistics costs and border delays sometimes make the export process more complex. However, with a strong field team and long-term partnerships, we focus on maintaining a balance between quality, timing, and sustainability," Karaduman concludes.
