Together with his brother Gerard, he founded the company Allround Vegetable Processing 30 years ago, following in the footsteps of their father, who also had a mechanisation business. Together, they built the company into the machinery supplier it is today, offering a wide range of equipment for processing potatoes, onions, carrots, and other outdoor vegetables.
Nineteen years ago, under Huib's leadership, Allround Vegetable Processing expanded to India to start a branch there. While many European companies failed to establish a successful presence, Huib persevered. "That enthusiasm characterised Huib. If he went for something, he went for it full force and did not let himself be slowed down," recalls colleague Joost Posthumius.
Nephew and namesake Huib Smit will now take over the overall management of the company.
The cremation will be private, but there will be an opportunity for condolences from 5 to 8 pm at the head office on Thursday, 9 October.
