Brazil orange juice exports fall 22% on quality, price issues

The reduction in quality of the 2024/25 orange juice crop, along with elevated pricing, is hindering Brazil's export activities, as per Cepea researchers. Based on Comexstat data gathered by the research center, exports of orange juice in concentrated equivalent (66° Brix) from July 2024 to May 2025 reached 730,948 tons, marking a 22.4% decline compared to the same period in the preceding season, from July 2023 to May 2024.

Typically, previous seasons witnessed export volumes nearing 1 million tons during the first 11 months. Domestically, Cepea assessments point out that factors such as the Corpus Christi holiday and moderate weather patterns have dampened consumer demand for oranges, although the available supply is rising.

This scenario has exerted downward pressure on the pricing of the fruit. The average price for fresh "pera" oranges between June 16 and 20 was R$63.07 per 40.8 kg box, equivalent to roughly US$12.49, a 0.84% decrease from the prior week. For fruits destined for processing plants, the price averaged R$44.53 per 40.8 kg box, approximately US$8.81, reflecting a 0.5% decrease over the same comparison period.
