“Ecological cardboard packaging is lightweight and cost-effective”

Consumers in India are opting for sustainable packaging more these days, says Dinesh Shinde, CEO of fresh produce importer and distributor and packer Anusaya Fresh: "Our eco-friendly cardboard packaging is a crucial part of our commitment to sustainability. We chose this material because it is biodegradable, recyclable, and helps reduce our carbon footprint. By opting for cardboard packaging, we aim to minimize environmental impact and promote a more sustainable future. It's important to us that our products are not only high quality but also environmentally friendly. We specialize in repackaging bulk products into smaller packaging, primarily for quick commerce platforms. Our esteemed customers in India, Blinkit and Zepto, both utilize our packaging solutions and have expressed great satisfaction with this approach."

Shinde emphasizes that ecological cardboard packaging can also lead to lower shipping costs. "Eco-friendly cardboard box food grade packaging offers several benefits to consumers compared to traditional plastic clamshell and other plastic packaging. Firstly, it is more sustainable and environmentally friendly, as it is made from recycled materials and can be easily recycled again after use. This helps reduce waste and minimize the impact on the environment. Additionally, cardboard packaging is lightweight and cost-effective, which can lead to lower shipping costs for businesses and potentially lower prices for consumers. Furthermore, cardboard is a food-grade material, ensuring the safety and freshness of the packaged food products."

Currently, the focus for this packaging is on consumers in India, but Shinde does not rule out that their packaging will make its way to international markets in the future: "We're currently in the process of packaging material that we have recently introduced. This particular packaging is designed specifically for quick commerce companies, as these companies are handling a large volume of small-sized fruit packages. While we are currently not exporting anything using this packaging, we may consider introducing it to the international market in the future, particularly targeting e-commerce platforms in Gulf countries. At present, we're packaging a variety of apples, pears, oranges, lemons, grapefruits, kiwifruits, stone fruits, cherries, dragon fruits, grapes, melons, and more."

According to Shinde, sustainable packaging has a bonus effect in terms of increasing one's public image. "By switching to eco-friendly cardboard packaging, companies can also enhance their brand image as environmentally conscious and responsible. This can attract more environmentally aware consumers who prefer sustainable products and packaging, as this packaging ensures less plastic pollution and a healthier planet for future generations. In terms of regions for future growth, I believe that the demand for eco-friendly packaging will continue to rise globally as more consumers become aware of the importance of sustainability. This presents a great opportunity for companies to differentiate themselves in the market and gain a competitive edge," he concludes.
