Agricultural exports from Albania increased to €570 million in 2024, escalating from €150 million in 2013, as reported by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Anila Denaj. Denaj attributed this increase to ongoing efforts, farmer support, and policies enhancing production and standards.
The government aims for €1 billion in exports by 2030. Factors contributing to competitiveness in global markets include infrastructure updates, agritourism promotion, farmer subsidies, and product certification. Denaj remarked, "The sector's transformation is now a reality," emphasizing continued government support for agricultural workers.
This expansion aligns with Albania's objective of European integration, leveraging agriculture as a fundamental economic component. Albanian agricultural goods are now present in EU markets and beyond, with exports centered on fruits, vegetables, medicinal plants, and processed items.
Challenges persist, such as land fragmentation, outdated machinery, climate change impacts, and rural labor shortages. Achieving the €1 billion target by 2030 requires advanced policy measures for agricultural modernization, food security, and enhanced international market access.
