Recent price data from the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) reveals notable fluctuations in the prices of several fresh produce items in the UK. Among these, the price of "Apples Other Late Season" has declined from an average of £1.73 per kilogram in the previous week to £1.50 in the current week, marking a decrease of £0.23, or 13%. Similarly, "Apples Gala" also experienced a drop, with the average price falling from £1.28 per kilogram last week to £1.16 this week, a reduction of £0.12, equivalent to 9%.
In contrast, the price of strawberries has shown an upward trend. This increase highlights a positive price adjustment in the strawberry market, contrasting with the downward trend observed in certain apple varieties.
Asparagus, a popular spring vegetable, has experienced a significant price reduction. The average price of asparagus fell sharply from £10.14 per kilogram last week to £7.77 this week, a decrease of £2.37 or 23%. This notable decline suggests a substantial shift in asparagus prices within one week.
