With challenges such as climate change, water stress, rising costs, labor shortages, and international competition, Morocco's citrus industry stakeholders are collaborating to steer the sector's future.
From May 13 to 15, 2025, Marrakech will host the inaugural National Citrus Congress, organized by the interprofessional group Maroc Citrus under the Ministry of Agriculture. The event aims to serve as a strategic juncture for the industry.
Participants, including producers, exporters, researchers, and institutional representatives, will convene to exchange ideas, share practical solutions, and develop a unified roadmap.
A notable feature will be the presentation of results from a nationwide census and mapping of Moroccan citrus orchards. This study, conducted by Maroc Citrus, will provide a foundation for future decisions.
On May 13, strategic panels will tackle issues such as sector revitalization, disease management, water resources, climate impacts, and agricultural technologies. The subsequent days will include over 20 applied research presentations, discussions, and actionable recommendations.
The congress is designed as a dialogue platform, scientific forum, and catalyst for collective action, addressing every link in the citrus value chain to rejuvenate a key pillar of Moroccan agriculture.
