Fruit and berry imports to Kazakhstan reached record levels in 2024, with over 835,000 tons brought into the country, an increase of 33.3% compared to the previous year. According to LS, the total value of these imports amounted to $455.7 million.
A sharp rise was seen in the import of apples, kiwis, and bananas, especially from China. Kazakhstan imported 200,400 tons of apples and pears in 2024, 1.5 times more than the year before. While Poland remained the largest supplier (78,600 tons), China's share surged by 3.1 times, reaching 30,900 tons. Iran also significantly increased its exports, sending 23,500 tons (up 4.2 times).
Other active exporters included Uzbekistan and Belgium.
Imports of citrus fruits — including oranges, mandarins, lemons, and grapefruits rose to 183,700 tons (+31.8%). China took the lead with 135,800 tons (+60%), while imports from Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, and Argentina declined.
Kazakhstan doubled its imports of exotic fruits such as pomegranates, kiwis, strawberries, raspberries, feijoa, and persimmons, reaching 87,000 tons. Top suppliers included:
- Russia: 35,200 tons (up 13-fold)
- China: 13,500 tons (up 2.3 times)
- Iran: 10,800 tons (up 6.6%)
Growth across all categories
- Grapes: 94,100 tons (+21.4%); China increased exports by 32.4%
- Bananas: 81,800 tons from Ecuador (+13.3%); Chinese exports soared 557 times
- Stone fruits (peaches, cherries, plums, apricots): 73,200 tons (+10.3%); Chinese supply doubled
- Dates, pineapples, avocados, mangoes, figs: 56,200 tons (over 33%)
In January 2025, Kazakhstan's fruit and berry imports continued their upward momentum, increasing by 34.5% year-on-year to reach 78,200 tons.
