From January to November 2024, Spanish fresh fruit and vegetable imports from the EU grew by 12%, totaling 1.9 million tons, and imports from non-EU countries increased by 1%, to 2 million tons, over the same period of 2023.
Imports from France, Spain's main fruit and vegetable supplier, increased by 20% over the same period in 2023, reaching 989,263 tons. Imports from Portugal, the Spanish market's third-largest supplier, also increased by 20% and stood at 379,151 tons.
Morocco was the second supplier with 398,826 tons (+1%).
Statistics from the Customs and Excise Department show that in the period analyzed, Community imports increased more than those from third countries. However, the continuous increase in imports over time affects both EU and non-EU suppliers, according to Fepex.
In the last five years (from January to November), purchases of fresh fruits and vegetables from EU countries grew by 27%, from 1.5 million tons in 2020 to 1.9 million tons in 2024, and purchases from third countries increased by 25%, from 1.6 to 2 million tons.
