Paraguay exports first shipment of persian limes to Argentina, marking new trade milestone

Paraguay has embarked on a new chapter in its agricultural trade by exporting Persian limes for the first time, with a shipment of 26 tons to the Argentine market. This venture from the Concepción region has met the necessary international quality and phytosanitary standards, showcasing over a decade of efforts to enhance the export capabilities of Paraguayan agriculture. The country's climatic conditions are conducive to cultivating high-quality limes, with the initial shipment sourced from 130 hectares of certified land, and an expansion of 20 hectares underway.

The government's strategy includes not only meeting local and international demand but also extending its market reach within Mercosur, particularly targeting Brazil by aligning phytosanitary measures. Preparations such as washing, disinfection, and waxing are part of Paraguay's commitment to adhere to global trade norms. Moreover, Paraguay is diversifying its agricultural exports, with plans to introduce cabbage to the international market next year and to investigate other crop opportunities.

Officials have expressed optimism about this development, stating, "This marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Paraguay's exports." The collaboration between producers and government support is pivotal for Paraguay to enhance and diversify its agricultural exports globally.
