Imports hit $123.7 million

U.S. overtakes China as top fruit supplier to Vietnam during Tet season

The U.S. has surpassed China as the leading supplier of fruits and vegetables to Vietnam during the Tet season, with a record import value of $123.7 million in December 2024. This shift is part of a broader trend, as Vietnam imported a total of $304.3 million worth of fruits and vegetables in December 2024, marking a 74.5% increase from the previous year. The surge in imports is largely driven by the anticipation of the Lunar New Year, as businesses and consumers stock up on imported produce.

With a 40.7% market share, the U.S. has overtaken China, which holds a 32.8% share, to become the top supplier during this critical period. This shift is influenced by changing consumer preferences, with U.S. fruits such as grapes, Envy apples, Dazzle apples, and EverCrisp apples gaining popularity due to their quality and competitive pricing. These fruits, priced between $2.20 and $8.70 per kilogram, are now widely available across various retail formats, including local markets and online platforms, and have become a key component of Tet gift baskets and celebrations.
