In the first seven months of 2024, Kyrgyzstan has augmented its tomato imports from Turkmenistan by 21%, as reported by the National Statistical Committee. The volume of tomatoes imported reached 14,900 tons, with a total value of $8.7 million, marking an increase from the previous year's 12,200 tons valued at $7.6 million.
With over 80% market share, Turkmenistan continues to be the dominant tomato supplier to Kyrgyzstan. The first half of 2024 saw a 15% increase in tomato imports to Kyrgyzstan, with 18,269 tons imported, amounting to nearly $12 million, up from 18,000 tons worth $10.4 million during the same timeframe in 2023. This consistent growth in import volume and value underscores the escalating demand for Turkmen tomatoes in Kyrgyzstan, solidifying Turkmenistan's significant role in the Kyrgyz tomato market.
