Wisconsin's cranberry production is poised to exceed initial USDA and Ocean Spray estimates of 4.9 million barrels this fall, according to Grant Holley, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Cranberry Growers Association. Holley highlighted the beneficial impact of late summer weather on berry size, projecting yields to surpass five million barrels. Despite concerns over the absence of protective winter ice due to mild winter conditions and spring storms, the resilience of the cranberries has been noteworthy. Holley noted the variation in harvest readiness between southern and northern bogs, with the former beginning soon and the latter expected to start in early October. The U.S., with Wisconsin contributing 60% of its output and 52% of global production, remains the leading cranberry producer, significantly ahead of Canada. Other key U.S. producing states include Massachusetts, New Jersey, Oregon, and Washington.
