China has inaugurated a new checkpoint at the Guanleigang Port in Yunnan's Xishuangbanna, enhancing the export pathway for Thai fruit via the Mekong River. According to Rapeepat Chantharasriwong, director-general of the Agriculture Department, the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (GACC) operationalized this new fruits clearance checkpoint on July 29. This development permits Thai exporters to directly transport fruits from the Chiang Saen checkpoint in Chiang Rai to Guanleigang, offering a more efficient alternative to traditional road transport.
The establishment of the new checkpoint follows trade negotiations aimed at strengthening trade relations between Thailand and China, led by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and Agriculture Minister Thamanat Prompow. The checkpoint is a result of the 8th Joint Technical Committee on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures between GACC and Thailand's Agriculture Ministry, which convened in Xi An, Shannxi. This agreement facilitates Thailand's export of agricultural products to China by simplifying sanitary and phytosanitary measures.
