Argentinian lemon growers worried about new export tax

Lemon producers from Tucumán are voicing concerns over the government’s recent decision to modify export retentions, imposing a general rate of 15% on agro-industrial sector products. This directive directly impacts the export of fresh lemon fruit and its by-products.

The North West Argentine Citrus Association (ACNOA), representing over 50,000 direct jobs and constituting 56% of Tucumán’s foreign income, criticizes this decision and requests a reconsideration of the treatment. The current crisis in citrus farming is exacerbated by a global oversupply of lemon, falling international prices, lower production costs in other countries, export market access barriers, and protectionist pressures.
