BLE week 37:

'Domestic damson plum season was already winding down in some places'

Local damsons still formed the basis of the range: Presenta, Hauszwetschge and Top were flanked by outgoing Fellenberg. Tophit and Topend were newly added in Frankfurt. Stanley, especially from the Republic of Moldova, as well as from Serbia intensified their supplies significantly, according to BLE. Overall, the wide-ranging assortment was somewhat limited in scope: The domestic season was already coming to an end in some places. In terms of quality, however, the articles were mostly convincing. Coloration and shelf life were right. In some cases, the price ranges widened due to fluctuations in size and quality.

All in all, due to the not too large availability and the rather weakening interest, the valuations could be maintained. In the case of imports, the Moldavian goods consolidated their position, while supplies from Serbia and northern Macedonia remained almost at the previous week's level. While interest in Eastern European goods was below average in Frankfurt, they generated lively interest in Munich and Berlin. Up to 1.50 € per kilo were called for the formidable Stanleys in the capital.

The range of varieties of domestic fruit became even more diverse. With fresh Elstar, Jonagold, Royal Gala, Boskoop, Wellant®, Sweet Tango® and Santana, domestics expanded their scope noticeably. In addition to the southern German Boskoop, the harvest from the north now also arrived at the Hamburg wholesale market. Likewise from the north, the first Cox Orange arrived for sale.

As usual at this time of the season, Dutch and Belgian deliveries dominated the scene. The range was supplemented by local varieties in particular, cherry tomatoes from Italy, newly arrived truss tomatoes from Croatia and Turkey, and round tomatoes from Poland. Due to the end of the vacations and the late summer weather, interest in tomatoes increased noticeably.
