Anton Riezebos, Polder Potato:

"First cold-soil Frieslander potatoes available"

In the Netherlands, Polder Potato's Anton Riezbos has managed to get his hands on the first cold-soil Frieslanders. The early potatoes come from the De Jong company.

"These were planted early and cultivated under plastic. Planting was impossible for a while," says Anton.

"So there's little chance of a good link this season. These potatoes are available per crate. Yesterday, I collected the first three pallets. For these first crates, it's a matter of distribution."

Anton expects good demand for these early potatoes, sold mainly to greengrocers via wholesalers. "There's good demand on the potato market. There are no large stocks, and the imported potato supply from countries like Malta and Morocco is also sparse," he concludes.
