According to FAO data, in a Hortoinfo analysis, in 2021 Spain surpassed the Netherlands for the first time ever in the price paid to farmers for their aubergines, as Spanish producers were paid €0.67/kg and Dutch producers €0.65/kg.
In 2013 Dutch producers were paid an average price, for all types and categories of that vegetable, of €0.87/kg while the Spaniards were paid €0.51/kg. In 2014, the price in the Netherlands stood at €0.99/kg and in Spain at €0.72/kg. In 2015, it stood at €1.01/kg in the Netherlands and at €0.61/kg in Spain; in 2016, it increased to €0.85/kg and €0.69/kg, respectively. In 2017, it stood at €0.8/kg and €0.51/kg. In 2018, it went up to €0.96/kg and €0.68/kg. In 2019, it dropped to €0.83/kg and €0.56/kg. In 2020, it stood at €0.84/kg and €0.60/kg, and in 2021, it stood at €0.65/kg in the Netherlands and €0.67/kg in Spain.
In 2021, aubergine producers from Israel achieved the best average price, with €0.75/kg, they were followed by Greek producers with €0.69/kg, Spanish producers with the aforementioned €0.67/kg, Dutch producers with €0.65/kg, Turkish producers with €0.25/kg, and Moroccan producers with €0.16/kg.
