Hnos. Fernández Lopez signs a commercial partnership with Cal Modest to strengthen its organic line

After several years of mutual commercial collaboration, Hnos. Fernández López SAU will start working on organic production with the Agroturisme Cal Modest SL company, located in Tornabous, Lleida, where it manages more than 110 hectares of organic fruit trees, including stone fruit and pome fruit.

Feliciano Freiria, the manager of Hnos. Fernández, closing the agreement with Ramón Crespo, the manager of Cal Modest.

"Both companies have signed a long-term collaboration partnership combining Cal Modest's technical and productive expertise in organic agriculture with Hnos. Fernández's distribution capacity, deep market knowledge, and different sales channels," Hnos. Fernández stated.

“Cal Modest is an example of a growing family business. The society, which is very sensitive to the natural environment, is led by Ramón Crespo. Its farms have photovoltaic installations. It also uses irrigation water recycling techniques with which it optimizes its water consumption, thus helping to alleviate the effects of the current water crisis situation without affecting the trees. In addition, it has recently used grazing animals on farms that allow it to eliminate weeds from crops in a totally artisanal way," Hnos. Fernández stated.

Agroturisme Cal Modest manages more than 130,000 organic fruit trees, grouped into several productive units, one of the largest of which is in Catalonia, and has an area of more than 110 hectares. Most have anti-hail and antifreeze systems to minimize weather risks, which are so frequent and have an impact on agricultural activity.

"With this commercial partnership, Hnos. Fernández López SAU strengthens its commitment to local and organic production, strategically reinforcing the organic activity that we have been expanding in recent years with the incorporation of new specialist professionals and with our presence in Barcelona's Biomarket, the first central market in Spain dedicated exclusively to organic trade, where we have 3 sales positions and a team of 10 people dedicated to the supply and sale of organic and proximity fruit in Spain and in the rest of Europe.

The partnership with Agroturisme Cal Modest will allow Fernández to expand and consolidate its organic line offering its customers continuity, a link with the origin and proximity production. It will contribute all its operational and commercial know-how, which it has accumulated throughout its more than 40 years of activity and that it deploys from its 42 points of sale distributed in the main wholesale markets of Spain, as well as from its 7 distribution platforms located in Barcelona, Alicante, Seville, Lleida, and Tenerife, and which together total more than 47,000 m² of facilities.

"We are happy to present this commercial alliance with Agroturisme Cal Modest to our customers and to offer this family project a solid, stable, and specialized exit to the markets," Hnos. Fernández stated.
