The apricot campaign at Lozupone Import-Export will start in mid-May. The company, which specializes in the cultivation of table grapes in Puglia, introduced the crop a few years ago. There are multiple varieties available, both early and late.

"In line with the medFEL forecasts for the Italian campaign, our company is also registering a slight drop in production, especially due to the weather. Harvesting will start around May 10th and we are hopeful that winter won't make a comeback and that we will thus proceed without problems. We will be able to make an assessment by mid-July," comments Francesco Lozupone.

As for the current situation when it comes to table grapes, the company representative mentioned blooming for the earlier varieties. "It is still too early to make an assessment. What is certain is that we will have to face climate change and an incessant increase in production costs."

Sustainability as a constant objective
"We have been reducing the use of phytosanitary products for years, also in line with the Zero Residue and organic certifications. Sustainability is a constant objective: for example, we use microbial antagonists and useful insects. We employ sexual confusion for Lobesia botrana, particular essences and useful insects."

"Some projects are also currently being developed to reduce costs and the use of plant protection products and to meet the needs of the big retail chain. Over the next few months, we will introduce structural changes such as a change in planting layouts."
