Algeria: Minister Tayeb Zitouni announces new conditions for banana imports

A few days ago, Algerian Trade and Export Promotion Minister Tayeb Zitouni announced that importers of bananas will now be subject to a new specification. This is in response to soaring banana prices

A statement from the Trade and Export Promotion Department said: “The issuance of the banana import banking domiciliation will be in accordance with a new specification to lower the price and ensure the availability of this product throughout the year on the domestic market.”

The Minister pointed out that the new specification requires importers to ‘respect a reference price’ and also to ‘gradually move towards investment in banana cultivation’. In this regard, Zitouni stated that the Ministry of Agriculture had undertaken to support investors in this area.
