7-Eleven coming soon to Europe
7-Eleven is preparing its European roll-out. The American-born chain is looking for experienced franchisees to open new branches in Western Europe. The small convenience store formula is initially targeting Germany, France, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Spain, Turkey and the UK. Austria and Switzerland could also be considered, reports Lebensmittel Zeitung. Remarkably, the Benelux countries are not included in the plans.

Retailers in Slovakia cap food prices
The participating retailers in the agreement for the Anti-Inflation Guarantee - Billa, Coop Jednota, Kaufland, Labaš, Lidl, Terno, Tesco chains and the eight individual business entities including CBA, have each published a statement and price list of the food products that are capped and are available via the website of the Slovak Ministry of Agriculture.

Top Belgian supermarket chain nears second month of strikes

Cooperative and grocery retailer Coop has sold 54 of its supermarkets in Italy’s capital Rome to Magazzini Gabrielli. Magazzini Gabrielli is a holding company specialising in large-scale distribution, owned by the Gabrielli family of Ascoli Piceno, and operates the Oasi and Tigre supermarket banners. The value of the transaction has not been made public by the two parties.

Belgium told to freeze prices for 100 basic products for three months
Belgium should freeze the prices of 100 products for three months to make sure people do not get into financial trouble when buying basic products in light of the skyrocketing inflation, said consumer protection organisation Testaankoop. Grocery shopping in the supermarket was 20% more expensive in March this year than in the same month in 2022, which is why Testaankoop is launching a proposal for the Federal Government to freeze the prices of certain products, such as bread, milk and fruit and vegetables.
