AgTech Moldova Conference

Over 250 participants and speakers from five countries discussed digitalization of agriculture in Chisinau

Moldovan agriculture is quickly adapting to technological innovations, which are becoming more attractive for the sector as they offer digital solutions to overcome the challenges faced by farmers. Climate change, energy crisis, labor shortage, and increasingly expensive inputs are just a few issues that prompt Moldovan farmers to identify new technological possibilities to minimize risks and improve agricultural efficiency.

In this context, the AgTech Conference, the only large-scale event in the Republic of Moldova dedicated to promoting IT technologies and innovations in agriculture, has become a platform for presenting and discussing digital solutions that can help farmers manage their agricultural businesses.

Organized for the fourth consecutive year by Agrobiznes together with key partners from the IT and agricultural sectors such as USAID RCRA, OPTIM, and Tekwill projects, the AgTech Conference, held on March 14 in Chisinau, brought together speakers from five countries who discussed trends and opportunities in the digitalization of agriculture.

The main topics of the AgTech Conference 2023 included:

  • Latest global trends in automation and irrigation efficiency;
  • Integration of agrivoltaics in farms - an innovative solution for better performance;
  • Practical aspects in operating aeroponic production systems;
  • Innovative solutions for farm management;
  • Apps and platforms for detecting diseases and issues in crops.

The solutions presented at AgTech 2023 aim to address issues such as the impact of the energy crisis, climate change, and the influence of labor shortages on farms.

“The AgTech Moldova Conference was an extraordinary success and gathered a diverse group of people passionate about innovation and agriculture. We hope that this event will contribute to strengthening the collaboration between the agricultural sector and the IT industry, to find innovative and sustainable solutions for the challenges faced by the agricultural sector in the Republic of Moldova,”said Sergiu Jaman, founder of Agrobiznes.

During the event the development partners mentioned that they will continue to support the digitalization initiatives of the agricultural sector in the Republic of Moldova.

“The progress made in recent years in the digitalization of agriculture is truly commendable. Despite the pandemic and regional issues, technology development has taken place much faster than we could have anticipated, and all of this will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the economy,” said John Riordan, Deputy Head of USAID Mission in Moldova.

The Moldovan agricultural sector is expected to be modernized through the implementation of several digital solutions at the country level.

“I am feeling much more optimistic seeing the technologies already present in Moldova, at the AgTech conference, and the Ministry of Agriculture will support the extensive digitalization process, so that Moldova's agriculture becomes more profitable and less dependent on external factors,” mentioned Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Moldova, Vladimir Bolea.

“Digitalization is the key to the success of any business, especially in agriculture. The digital tools available on the market are very important, many of them have found their place on our farm, but we always follow trends to identify a solution that integrates all the necessary systems,” said Vitalie Burlacu, agronomist at LTD Natcubi-Agro.

*AgTech is an initiative created by Agrobiznes and developed with the support of institutional and commercial partners to promote the most digitalized businesses and agricultural initiatives in Moldova, as well as those at the regional level.
