The Coalmar Fruits cooperative, the result of the merger between Agricola del Marquesat de Llombai and Agricola San Salvador de Alfarp, has reported record kaki prices in its first year, which stood on average at € 0.50/kg, i.e. almost 65% higher than in the previous campaign and probably the highest in the last decade.
These figures are a contrast to the significant drop in harvest there was, as producers expected to harvest 15 million kilos and only obtained about 5.
“These good business results are supported by very good warehouse yields, as well as containment in spending, despite the price increase. Our partners have been paid nearly 60 cents for every kilo that has entered the warehouse, both commercially and non-commercially, discounting all collection and insurance expenses," the entity stated.
It should be noted that last year, the cooperative of Llombai paid its kaki in la Ribera at € 0.36/kg, while Alfarp paid it at € 0.31/kg.
The commercial director of Coalmar, Borja Mari, stressed that, despite the scarcity of kaki, the commercial result is satisfactory and has advocated diversifying crops, as the current dependence on kaki (which accounts for 75% of Coalmar's total production) is not healthy.
