Caprabo now sells tomatoes with 100% recyclable and compostable packaging in its stores

Farewell to plastic in tomato packaging

The supermarket chain Caprabo is now selling in its stores a 100% recyclable and compostable package (made out of paper, paper mesh, and bamboo) for tomatoes, with which it expects to save three tons of plastic a year in the sale of about 250,000 kilos of tomatoes.

“Caprabo hopes to advance initiatives that contribute to minimizing the impact of plastics on the environment. We, as a supermarket, can do it with micro-actions that help take care of the environment,” stated Fernando Tercero, Head of Proximity Products at Caprabo.

“Caprabo is the first company to which we are supplying our product with 100% environmentally friendly packaging,” stated Josep Ferrer, director of the tomato supplier company Conca de Tordera. “Their commitment as a responsible supermarket helps us to meet one of our highest goals; the preservation of our environment.”
