Israeli retailer Shufersal reports lower Q4 profit
Shufersal, Israel's largest supermarket chain, reported a steep drop in fourth-quarter profit, citing a decrease in operating income and one-off expenses. Shufersal said it earned 3mln shekels ($822,413) in the October-December period, versus 100mln shekels a year earlier. Revenue rose 1% to 3.65bln shekels, although same store sales dipped 1.6% versus the year earlier quarter.

Fresh farm produce and supply chain startup Sorted has raised over $5mln in its ongoing seed funding. This is the maiden funding round for a year old venture. Sorted allows offline mom and pop stores to place orders for fresh produce of fruits and vegetables through its app, and have it delivered the next morning straight from farmers.

Just Eat is planning to oust 1,700 couriers in the UK as the takeaway delivery firm shifts back towards a gig economy model and scraps guaranteed minimum pay, sick pay and holiday pay. In addition 170 head office staff will have their contracts terminated as the firm attempts to cut costs in a highly competitive market.

Dutch ecommerce worth €33.3bln in 2022
Last year, Dutch consumers spent 33.3bln euros online. This is a 9% growth compared to 2021. The number of purchases actually decreased by 5%, but the average amount per purchase increased by 15%. Italian large-scale retail sector sees sales up, margins decline in 2022
The large-scale food retail sector reported 6.7% sales growth in Italy in 2022, albeit with EBIT margin declining to 1.4% from 2.4% in the previous year, new data has shown. The figures come from the annual Observatory on the Italian retail sector conducted by Mediobanca, which compiled data from 130 companies, accounting for 97.6% of the market.

US: Harris Teeter revamps its marketing approach
