The Ventura and Biloxi varieties account for 58.9% of the total area

Peru's blueberry area grew by 11% in 2022

The president of the Inform@cción consultancy, Fernando Cilloniz Benavides, stated that last year the area devoted to blueberry crops in Peru had increased by 11.13%, going from 16,290.58 hectares in 2021 -according to data from the National Agricultural Health Service (Senasa)- to 18,103.37 hectares in 2022.

He also projected that by the end of this year, Peru would have nearly 20,000 hectares devoted to this crop.

La Libertad was the region with the largest area of blueberries in 2022 with 8,445.16 hectares, i.e. 2% more than in 2021, concentrating 46.65% of the country's total blueberry area.

It was followed by Lambayeque with 4,930.74 hectares (+36.65% over 2021), accounting for 27.24% of the total area of said fruit; ICA with 1,272.53 hectares (1,255.05 ha in 2021); Lima with 1,231.28 ha (1,236.38 ha); Ancash with 1,184.99 ha (1,012.05 ha); Piura with 965.80 ha (858.07 ha); and Moquegua with 72.87 ha (42.94 ha).

The leading variety installed was the Ventura blueberry with 5,785.05 hectares in 2022 (5,290.76 ha in 2021), followed by the Biloxi variety with 4,870.45 ha in 2022 (4,915.26 ha in 2021). Both varieties concentrated 58.9% of the total area of blueberries that exist in Peru in 2022.

Other blueberry varieties installed in 2022 were Rocío, with 1,158.52 ha (1,238.09 ha in 2021); Emerald, with 1,125.87 ha (1,033.84 ha in 2021); Sekoya Pop, with 915.00 ha (424.65 ha); Atlas Blue, with 676.40 ha (425.65 ha); Sekoya Beauty, with 490.61 ha (365.62 ha); Magica, with 324.26 ha (215.56 ha); Salvador, with 316.46 ha (119.74 ha); and other varieties, with 2,440.75 (2,261.41 ha).
