With the departure of the largest container transport company – CMA/CGM – from operations at the Port of Natal, which should take place in the coming months, around 40 producers will no longer export more than 20,000 tons of fruit through the Natal terminal in the next harvest.
These loads must be transferred to the ports of Ceará so that, from there, they can reach the consumer market on other continents. On the other hand, the Port of Natal should receive the Agrícola Famosa refrigerated ship, with a load of 3,000 tons per week (about 75,000 tons during 24 weeks).
Since last year, the company has changed its logistics and started exporting between 30% and 35% of its melon and watermelon production to Europe in a model that dispenses with containers and uses pallets.
