George Weston Limited reported $14.1bln in revenue for the fourth quarter of 2022, up 9.6% from the previous year. The parent company to Loblaw Companies Limited and Choice Properties Real Estate Investment Trust released its results for the quarter and fiscal 2022. Net earnings available to common shareholders in Q4 came to $369mln - a 6.3% increase from the prior year.

US: Dollar Tree to intensify investments in food
After substantial leadership changes throughout 2022, Dollar Tree has revealed better-than-expected fourth quarter and fiscal year financial results. During its earnings call, the discount retailer said it’s ready to accelerate investments, including grocery. During the fourth quarter ended January 28, the company reported its consolidated net sales increased 9.0% to $7.72bln. Enterprise same-store sales rose 7.4%. Dollar Tree same-store sales grew 8.7%, driven by a 10.0% increase in average ticket, partially offset by a 1.1% decline in traffic.

US: Publix reports fourth quarter and annual results for 2022
Publix’s sales for the three months ended December 31, 2022, a 14‑week quarter, were $15.3bln, a 22% increase from $12.6bln in 2021, a 13‑week quarter. The additional week in the fourth quarter of 2022 increased sales by 8.1%. Comparable store sales for the three months ended December 31, 2022 increased 12.4%. Publix’s sales for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2022, a 53-week year, were $54.5bln, a 13.6% increase from $48bln in 2021, a 52-week year. The additional week in 2022 increased sales by 2.1%. Comparable store sales for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2022 increased 9.9%.

UK: Demand for fresh fruit and veg rises in convenience stores as shortages hit supermarkets

Auchan sees improvement in French hypermarkets
For the first time in nine years, Auchan was able to grow again in its French home market.
