The country has been authorized to make test shipments at the start of the season

Argentina advances in the opening of the Indian market for its sweet citrus

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries of Argentina reported that the Ministry of Agriculture and Welfare of Farmers had sent a note to the Agricultural Attaché of Argentina in India, indicating that the inspection visit to advance in the opening of the market for exports of sweet citrus fruits (oranges, mandarins, and grapefruits) to that country was not necessary. Thus, Argentina is authorized to carry out test shipments at the beginning of the season with 10 loads per fruit variety, according to the sanitary protocol already agreed between both countries.

“This is a significant step in the opening of the Indian market, which will be formally completed after successfully passing the test shipments.”

This progress has been possible thanks to the coordinated work of the Secretariat with SENASA and the Argentine Foreign Ministry through the Embassy in New Delhi.

In 2021 India imported sweet citrus fruits (mainly oranges) for almost 100 million dollars.
