"Although the French apple harvest has not been great this year, we have abundant volumes in the south-east of the country, 10% above the productive potential," says Jacques Banuls, commercial manager of Edenys. "The weather conditions have been much better than last year, when we lost 30% of our volumes due to problems caused by rainfall and high temperatures."
The weather conditions have also helped to obtain high quality fruits. "We've had cool nights and sunny days, which has resulted in a good coloration. In our Pink Lady harvest there are fruits that have reached 100% coloration." Edenys has started the harvest of Pink Lady apples this week. Volumes will grow in the coming weeks. The fruits are intended for the European market. "Our market of choice is the French one. We also export a lot to Germany, the Netherlands and the UK.
Pink Lady fields
Jacques says that the market awaits the French Pink Lady. "There is no Southern Hemisphere Pink Lady on the market. We are looking forward to the start of the Pink Lady season, as our sales will grow quickly, given that the market is relatively calm for now. Large orders have yet to come."
According to Jacques, the latter is a direct result of the health crisis. "People wait before placing orders, so no big plans are made in advance. However, this is only a small negative point. For us, for now, COVID-19 has not taken a huge toll. The French domestic market makes us confident, because it demands primarily products of French origin."
